African Union joins G20 as permanent member, PM Modi welcomes with embrace

The African Union has been included in the G20 as a permanent member. In the session held on the first day of the G-20 summit, PM Narendra Modi announced the official inclusion of the African Union in the G-20 group. PM Modi said that with everyone’s consent the African Union is going to become a permanent member of G20. After this announcement by the PM, the entire Bharat Mandapam erupted with applause. All the leaders sitting there welcomed this step with applause.

After the announcement of inclusion of African Union as a permanent member in G20, PM Modi hugged and congratulated African Union President Azali Assoumani. After PM Modi’s announcement, India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had brought along African Union President Azali Assoumani.

African Union with 55 countries is now a permanent member of G20

Let us tell you that G20 is an intergovernmental forum, which includes 19 countries and the European Union. PM Modi had written a letter to the 55-nation African Union three months before the summit to make it a permanent member of the G20. Now the African Union has permanently joined the G20.
